Damn, Damn, and Damn

Published by Ree at 3:17 pm under Real Life

Damn Spartans. Y’all sure as shit know how to break a girl’s heart.

I’m pissed at Shortman today. Friday is the last day of the marking period and he hasn’t completed his community service for his Government class. He’s worked really hard so far this year, and he’s going to let something he knew about in September fuck up his grade for a half-semester of this class.

Tomorrow he has a consult with the Oral Surgeon. So that’s out. Essentially, he has 4 days to figure out and complete 2 hours of community service. I don’t know whether to let his ass fail or to help him out. Sigh.

—- If anyone has any ideas for a quick (seriously quick) community service project, let me know. —-

Am not sure what counts in your area for community service, but here the young people get credit for helping the elderly with projects. Like raking leaves, washing windows, the list is endless and the need is also endless. If that sort of thing counts, he would be hard pressed to not be able to fulfill that requirement yet today.

I was going to suggest what the first commenter suggested. Our guys have 4 years of high school to complete 40 hours of community service. And yet there are still many who are in the final months of high school and have done nothing..and they don’t graduate until they have done so. Just wanted you to know..your kid isn’t the only one who procrastinates in this area!

Anonymous - Thanks so much. Excellent idea! Hopefully I can get some of the neighbors to pose as senior citizens! ;-) I just got a look at the requirements, and it does state that the service must be pre-approved. So tomorrow, Shortman will beg his teacher to allow raking leaves for Senior Citizens (there are actually a few on our street) to count. Until his math tutoring starts next month. (Which, I’m sure, is what he was counting on for credit.)

Sherry, I know. Sigh. But isn’t my kid supposed to be different? (hee, yea, right!)

What about volunteering at a homeless shelter or something of that nature.

I think Shortman is gonna be in a bit of trouble.. eeks

Damn Spartans! And damn effing Gators, too. Argh!

Quick Community Service Project: Go file at a law office. They are tremendous paper pushers and are always looking for victims…oops! I mean volunteers, to lend a hand.

If that doesn’t work, try the hospital. The Geriatric Ward or the Paediatric Ward. They can always use help.

Collect warm stuff and donate it somewhere - anywhere - he could trick or treat for canned goods - he could volunteer to hand out Halloween candy … somewhere…

And then he owes you 2 hours of labor for saving his ass!

The soup kitchen comes to mind, as does going to the senior center and playing checkers with some old fogey who walked five miles to school. In the snow. Up hill. Barefoot.

    Collect shoes for Kenya.

How ’bout helping at an after-school program - they usually need help in the public schools, and they LOVE having boys.

Thanks for the suggestions. We’ll see what he has to say for himself when I get home. Then tomorrow, he hits the streets.
