Jeans (not Genes)

Published by Ree at 4:43 pm under Fashion

I finally found the right style of jeans for me. Yes, I’m 44 (and a half) - and it’s taken me this long to figure it out.

They’re Levi 515s. The description (from the Levi’s site) says it all: A bootcut jean that’s not too slim or too relaxed. Sits just below the waist with a close, comfortable fit through the seat and thigh.

And it’s true! I picked up two pair at Kohl’s last weekend - and I see them being part of my wardrobe for the entire winter.

It’s hard to fit my body. I have to find pants that sit below my natural waist and (and believe me, this is the important part) fit my ass. I don’t have wide hips - they’re actually pretty narrow, but my butt? Not flat, that’s for sure. Baby Got Back? Yea, Sir Mix-A-Lot walked behind me one time.

I can remember being in high school and having to wear jeans and pants (y’all remember Dittos?) that gapped so badly at the waist that I refused to sit on the bleachers at football games because guys would attempt to throw things down my pants. I was a horrible seamstress (and my mother was just as bad) so making any alteration to a pair of pants? Standing up for an entire school day was less painful.

So, anyway, to say I’m excited about finally finding these jeans that.fit.me. is a bit of an understatement. It means that Casual Friday and the whole Business Casual dress code is finally within my reach. (Yay, me!) And since I can actually find the “long” sizes, I can continue to wear my heels with them without looking the fool. (Since all of the other NaBloPoMoHos are showing their shoes, I thought I’d show you mine. They’re old and ratty, but amazingly comfortable. Dress Barn, circa 2003.)

Plus, I used my $10 gift card from Vicky’s Slutwear to get this on sale. In red.

—- So, what are your favorite jeans? Why are they your favorite? Is it their fit? Their softness? The hole that is in just the right place on your knee? —-

I have two favorite pairs of jeans. They are identical. I bought the first pair in the fall of 2004. I am ashamed to admit that they cost over $100. (PLUS I had to pay to have them SHORTENED.) But it wasn’t my fault. I used to wear Levis something, something somethings. (Old age is hell!) I was size 3 short and never even had to try them on when I bought a new pair. Well the bastards quit making them and I went without for a long time.

I was so in love with my new, expensive, but MADE FOR ME jeans, that the Saint went back to the boutique where I bought the first pair and bought me another pair for Christmas!! All I know is they are David Kahn’s (nope, I’d never heard of him either) and I am in deep shit when they wear out. Holy crap, this comment is going to be longer than my post today!

(BTW, me? Lurking? I only come out of the closet for the boys of “Entourage”.)

Okay, that’s bizarre. I had this window open to leave a comment, but had to pop back to my blog for a second to check something and you’d just let a comment. Synchronicity!

About the jeans… I used to know what fit me. Now, after a kid, things have changed a bit. I’m shaped a bit like you, I believe. I will have to give those jeans a try. You know, before my gut gets too big for them.

I love the jeans. They look awesome. And you are going to look rockin’ good with the boots, too.

I don’t have any favourite jeans. I am still looking. I have 6 more years, by your count. Maybe I’ll give yours a try!

Those are my favorite also! I used to love the Calvin Klein, but they changed something in their construction overnight and I was SAD.

I have yet to find my perfect jean.

I’m tall and all legs, so very few of the longs really even are long enough. They are getting better.

    I am really low-waisted, so I have to have a low-rise, but not ass-crack-low-rise.

In addition, my hips are way wider than my waist, so I always get the gap, so always have to wear a belt.

I shall try these Levis, though. Sound like a good fit!

I’m still figuring out the whole jeans thing, still. But, for now, Lands’ End bootcuts fit me well. Especially around my Junk in Da Trunk, you know? LOL!

    Must give the 515’s a try…

Why is it if you’re a size 6 you must be the size of an Amazon??? That is one of the single most annoying things about jean shopping. At least at Lands’ End they do free hemming. *fume*

I got some from Express a couple years ago - I like em well enough. I’ve had okay luck with Lucky jeans - but just the mens.

I recently discovered the Right Fit jeans over at Lane Bryant. They fit like a dream and are amazing. All other jeans in my closet need to hit the road. And they are comfortable to boot.

(Even better - there’s no gape when I sit - yippee because I really don’t need to be flashin’ my coworkers when I sit down)…

Tar-zhay has some that I just luv. They have a hint of lycra for that little bit of stretch without getting all saggy.

I loooove that sweater. I don’t think I’ll post my shoes, they’re well worn ten year old Birkenstocks. What can I say, I have a short husband.

I’m still looking for the perfect jeans. Old Navy used to make them, but then they decided to put smaller numbers on larger sizes and phase out the actual small sizes. So now I have to wear jeans cinched up around my waist like a burlap sack.

I like Gap boyfriend jeans. I used to buy Sevens but they are ridiculously expensive and don’t hold up.

They are way too long for me though - all jeans are, and the cuffs (or whatever the bottom part is called) end up getting destroyed almost immediately.

There is nothing better than a fabulous pair of jeans! The perfect pair is hard to find, though, so kudos.

My favorite pair are dark wash Citizens of Humanity “Ingrid” jeans. I had them hemmed nice and long, so I have to wear a heel with them, but they make my short legs look unbelievably long and my bubbly butt look round but not ghetto fabulous. They are a miracle in pant form!

Favorite pair of jeans? Fuck, I’ll settle for anything that doesn’t make me feel like a hobo in this damned “My body is a different shape every time I wake up” stage of pregnancy.

Seriously, my favorite pair that I hope I’ll make it back into by this time next year, were/are Damage, a steal from a trifecta coupon, credit and extra savings code on Bluefly. The ass to waist ratio was perfection, whether seated or standing, they were/are long enough and a great, dark color.

My favourite jeans are boring, bootcut and fabulous. And the dream jeans are a little lower, but I still love ‘em.

    I’m a fussy, fussy cow.

    I love your boots, btw.

I’ll have to give those a shot. I have such a hard time finding jeans and now that I have three children, well, yeah. I need a new pair of jeans.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

Ree, because you’re my new best friend (sorry Kristin) I’m going to confess to you my favorite pair of jeans. Because there’s a whole lot of embarrassing going on here.

I’m 5′0″ tall, and overweight. Hello, America, I’m talking to you. So I wear like a 14, which my mother weighed when I was a kid and I swore I’d never be. Anyway…

The only pair of jeans I can get that fit me beyond the initial washing is from Lane Bryant. I can’t wear anything else they make because I’m not big on top, just pear-shaped. A bosc pear. Anjou even. But those jeans are my mana.
