Opening Day

Published by Ree at 1:56 pm under Baseball

I believe in the soul, the cock,
the pussy, the small of a woman’s
back, the hanging curve ball,
high fiber, good scotch, long
foreplay, show tunes, and that
the novels of Thomas Pynchon are
self-indulgent, overrated crap.

I believe that Lee Harvey Oswald
acted alone, I believe that there
oughtta be a constitutional
amendment outlawing astro-turf
and the designated hitter, I
believe in the “sweet spot”, voting
every election, soft core
pornography, chocolate chip
cookies, opening your presents on
Christmas morning rather than
Christmas eve, and I believe in
long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses
that last for 7 days.

    OMG! OMG!!!

    BULL DURHAM!

I believe that this is the single best movie monologue EVER!

    EVEEERRRRRRRRRRRR!

I just watched this the other night on TV too, however, all the swear words were gone. Fuckers. It make the whole Crash/Umpire cock-sucking call exchange just boring.

    I love this movie.

“He hit the fucking bull! He gets a free steak!”

    Go Cubs.

Seriously, you have no idea how much I love you for posting this… I’m not kidding. I just asked Princess Sparkle Pants to marry me, but I’m considering bigamy so that you can be my wife too.

One of the cable stations was running baseball themed movies this weekend, so I caught a run of “A League of Their Own” before settling down to watch my Nats’ debut in the new digs. Are there any words more wonderful than “Play Ball”?

Did you eat Viagra for breakfast today?

Hubby is a long suffering Detroit fan, his beloved grandmother never missed a home game for many many years.

    OK, put the bat down…

I’m not a Tigers fan, but you don’t have any idea how happy this post made me. It’s JUST what I needed to hear.

I should go home and watch that movie tonight. Funniest thing ever is to watch the DVD and change up the languages so you can hear that speech in Spanish, French and German.

I totally agree about Thomas Pynchon. I tried to read one of his books once. I got through about 5 pages and was like “WTF?!”

Yeah, like I have no idea what you people are talking about. I take it you are swooning over some stupid sports movie.

    Meh.

But I do love the first para…

I watched that damn part so many stinkin times I had the whole thing down for a while!

Of course, Dana reminded me of one of the funniest damn lines from “A league of their own” too - I’m gonna go home and get a pickle tickle from the wife.

    Yours is fantastic, too!

    I love Kevin Costner.

I also believe baseball was meant to be played during the day and that the Cubs need to stop taking away all the day games and making more night games because they make more money for the team.

    A Tiger’s Fan! Woot!

As you know, my hubby grew up in Detroit, and spent his formative youth hopping busses to go to games. When he was 8, way back in the 1950s somewhere, he and his friends would get a bus, get off a bus, get another bus, and then walk a bunch of blocks to get sit in the bleachers at Tiger Stadium. He went to a game there just before they opened the new stadium.

He would be proud to know I have a Tiger’s fan as a friend ;)

You know… the opening monologue from that movie won me a four year full tuition scholarship at UMCP. As if I couldn’t love that film more more, then it paid my way through college. Now, funny enough, I live 10 minutes from Durham, NC.

    Crazy world.
