Food and Taxes

Published by Ree at 11:03 pm under Hotlight

Is it any surprise I find it a bit difficult to get any work done?

Yes, that’s my desk. I work like this, with one or the other of the cats spreading out in front of the window and shedding (oh, mah holy hell, the shedding in this house, between two cats, the dog, and me!) like crazy all over my papers.

And even more fun - guess what I got in the mail today! Return address - Austin, TX.

Sigh, no, it was not a bare nekkid picture of Matthew McConoughey. It was from the I.R.S.

It was NOT good news. Seems that I fucked up made a teeny tiny little mistake on my 2006 tax return. So I get to spend this evening figuring that out. Um, oops. Whee, fun! (I mean that in the most sarcastic way possible, of course.)  Why yes, that is my checkbook in the picture.

So, in return, I’m giving you the April Hotlights - Recipes: Yum, yum, yum. Go look around and enjoy….

First up, my darling Mr. Lady and her Super Saturday Suppers (who, by the way, has a video up today and she is showing some cleavage….). I love this damn easy Brownie recipe.

Lyvvie, over the pond in Scotland, told me about Cooking With Dog. And All Recipes. What she left out was that she’s a marvelous source of inspiration in the kitchen herself.

Dizzy Lizzy (bow your heads in memory - her computer crashed today - and we pray she’s back soon) knew I’d start drooling immediately upon heading over to Baking Bites. Especially when I scrolled down and saw this and then? Peanut Butter and Jelly muffins. Pass the napkins - my keyboard is getting wetter by the picture.

Andrea, over at SchizoFrenetic, sent me Cooking Light. After that last site, I’m going to need this. Seared Salmon. And just in time for our favorite May holiday (well, except for my birthday and Mother’s Day) - tequila!

The Yummy Mummy Cooks Gourmet was brought to this page by Veronica - who has her own hilarious take on cooking with a toddler. Warning! Do not read Yummy Mummy with anything, food/drink/your fingers, in your mouth. You will either choke or your monitor will end up wearing it. (Hey, don’t blame me if you don’t take that advice.)

And this month’s overachiever (I love her for her shoes, but she’s also a damn special kitchen whore) - Lys at Just Because… Three of her favorites are: Erin Cooks, Flanboyanteats, and The Pink Shoe Cookbook. I gained 10 lbs just reading through these three sites. Thanks Lys! (And I only mean that half sarcastically!)

—- Now excuse me while I go drink myself into a stupor rob the nearest bank sell myself on the corner look for my 2006 tax return. Do you think they’ll accept Shortman and Moody as collateral? —-

Stooopid IRS. Just wrote a huge check our ownselves. Wouldn’t mind if I wasn’t playing “Frogger” in my car trying to avoid potholes on the way to work!

I still have to file in the US. I live IN CANADA. They can tax me, too, if they so choose. We got a letter the other day saying we *MAY* be eligible for whatever that money they’re handing out is. Stimulus or something? I do not, EVEN want Bush and Conde trying to Stimulate me. *shivers*

Yuck, taxes. A friend of mine recently got notice from the IRS that she owes $25,000 in back taxes… from a year when she was a full-time graduate student! Yeah, no.

You continually amaze me with your energy and time management skills. I mean, how can you have a career, family and devote so much energy to your wonderful blog? Makes my head spin!

Yipes, the IRS is getting to you about 2006 taxes? Yipe, they’re paying serious attention to us, aren’t they? Now my head’s spinning and my feet are sweating.

Damn that IRS - always a time delay with them. I’m not opening my mail because today’s horoscope for Scorpio was “A big, unexpected bill could arrive toay, which causes an outburst! Hold tight.” Ummm.. if there is ONE thing from the IRS in my mailbox, I will lose. my. damn. mind. (not that it isn’t lost already *LOL*)…

Damn Special Kitchen whore?? Now that is a title I will relish proudly (considering that my friends have ripped away my shoe slore tiara). I think I’m going to have to beg, whine and plead for a button for CookingInStilettos ;)

Seriously - those three sites are a.m.a.z.i.n.g. - daily must reads!

Someone needs to find a Bacon blog for Kristabella.

Thanks for awesome mention! What a cool surprise!

You know, I have to say that when I saw “Hotfessional.com” on my google analytics I pictured some hairy fat guy sitting in his cubicle masturbating and looking for “Yummy Mummies” on the internet. Really, I get that kind of crowd….

So, I was pleasantly pleased to find you. I’ll throw you on the blogroll. I need to do a big up-date this weekend.

You rock, sister, in all your hotness!

I think part of the reason I still rent is because I can’t screw up the EZ form on my taxes. Well I could, but Turbo Tax won’t let me.

Once you start having deductions and all that, my head would explode.
