May Hotlight - How does your garden grow?
Wha? It’s June? Damn. How did that happen?
In honor of my dirty fingernails and my muddy knees, in honor of the weather forecast for the next week (80s y’all! Now shush, no pissing off Mother Nature, eh?), in honor of the Eastern Bluebirds nesting in my birdhouse, and, in honor of 5 months of Hotlighting, here you go.
Way back when, I was looking for some information on how to kill transplant a bunch of Russian Sage, I stumbled upon this thing called a blog. Oh, I’d heard of blogging, but I thought it was something that teenagers did. (um, oops. Forgive me?)
Anyway, it was Colleen’s “In the Garden Online“.
Then I made my way through some of her links:
Calendula & Concrete
Cold Climate Gardening
May Dreams Gardens
Our Little Acre
Rurality and The Inadvertent Gardener were the very first sites I found where I read through each and every archived post.
TxPoppet sent me Tea and Margaritas in my Garden
And lovely Elle gave us her very own Gardening 101 tutorial.
Magpie wrote a beautiful post about pass along plants - what a wonderful tribute to the gardeners in her life.
And Dizzy Ms Lizzy sent me this wonderfully complete site.
So, see, if I wasn’t trying to kill something that cannot be killed…(a first for me) - I wouldn’t have found blogs. I wouldn’t have found Susie Sunshine (someone linked to her white flower garden, I think). I wouldn’t have been discussing blogs with Mr. Hot - and he wouldn’t have come up with the brilliantly (snort) appropriate (double snort) name for this blog!
—- Now, I have tomatoes to water, and I must scrub my knees. And I don’t have my new June header ready yet because of the freaking 96 spitoonias petunias and 48 smelligolds marigolds I put in the ground. Hope you find some inspiration and your inner green thumb. —-

HOT LOVE

Inner green thumb…too bad my “inner green thumb” is just like Kryptonite for all plant species. LOL I like plants, I really do. They just don’t like me. Or maybe they like me so much that they can’t contain their excitement and expire upon site?
Either way, I end up with an ass load of brown, dead stuff ~ and not a speck of green.
Great sites, thanks for passing them on. I just came in from trimming, otherwise known as weed eatin’, and was pondering some areas that need new plantings. You must be psychic!
Shania’s last blog post..Just get out, already!
Two nights ago, I stopped at Lowes, to get a couple of electrical parts, and while there, I walked through the outdoor garden/landscape area, just for the heck of it. As I walked passed all of the plants, flowers and other things, I thought that it might be nice to have a few things around the trailer to brighten up the area a bit. So, what did I buy? Four patio blocks to put in front of my trailer step. That’s it. I guess I’m not ready to get plants and flowers yet. Maybe next week… Maybe.

I have a black thumb. So once I decide to give gardening another try, I totally know where to go! And so glad you decided to start blogging!!

Once, when I actually had delusions that I could keep plants alive, I went to Home Depot to look at seeds and flowers. The woman in the flower department was very excited about the butterfly garden seeds. I ran like a woman who just remembered she left the iron plugged in and sitting on the bathroom floor with the bathtub running. Butterflies are creepy. Weird phobia, I know. But your header is pretty. It really is! I have no phobia in regard to fake butterflies.

We have this little grassy patch between our house and the one in front. On the north side of the grassy patch is an alley, and then a parking lot. The parking lot, well, invites all sorts of characters who THROW THEIR TRASH into our grassy patch. We were thinking of planting hastas there (I probably spelled that wrong), but I’m afraid it will shelter rats. So, I’ll just have our nice little containers of catnip that I replace every month, and admire REAL gardeners from afar.

Signed,
She who can’t garden for **** and lets her Aerogarden do all the work. And I’ll gladly credit my Aerogarden if more than the basil sprouts after one week. Think they might have sent me a dud pack.

thanks for all the reading material!

I watered the bamboo plant in my house. That’s as much of a green thumb as I get. It is the ONLY plant I own. And it was a gift.
