Pssst, Chicago….

Published by Ree at 1:03 pm under Travel

…come closer. I need to whisper this. I love you. I think you’re one of the greatest cities that I’ve ever visited. The architecture is fabulous. Your food is to die for. Your people have big city confidence with Midwestern friendliness.

Okay, so your weather can be pretty freakin’ sucky for 6 months of the year…but otherwise, you’re the kind of place that I could settle down in someday.

If I won a lottery.

or divorced Mr. Hot and married The Donald.

or found out that I’m really the long-lost daughter of Bill Gates.

Until then, I’m happy to come visit you. At least I have an expense account.

But Chicago? Hey. I need to tell you something. It’s important. (No, you don’t have bad breath or spinach stuck in your teeth.)

Up at Oak Street Beach? - someone stole your sand.

Dude. It’s gone. Seriously. I went up to the running path this morning to watch the sun rise over Lake Michigan. I walked down Lakeshore Drive and crossed over using one of the pedestrian tunnels. I walked up the stairs and back out into the fresh air and took a deep breath. I wanted to smell the water and the sand and the faint scent of Coppertone.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Then I looked. No sand.

What the fuck?

Just thought, y’know, you may want to file a police report. They may be able to find it if you bring them pictures for identification. Because I don’t think you can call it a beach without, y’know, sand.

Love,

The Hotfessional

    Weird. That’s not a beach!

Yes, thrilling city, but NOT cheap.
I’ll let The Donald know he’s in line should anything happen to Mr. Hot.

O Noes! No Sand?? Wait - Chicago has beaches???

I have to say (and Kristabella - DONT SHOOT ME), I have NEVER seen Chi-town outside of the airport. And the airport was enough to scare me into crossing Chicago off my “Places to visit”.

However Ms. Hot, if you say its a cool place, I’ll give it another shot (and won’t judge by O’Horror).

No sand? Was it replaced with litter and toxic waste cuz that is usually what happens.

It is so nice to hear someone else appreciate this city as MUCH as I do!!

I totally love Chicago. I head up to the city as often as I can. Hubs works in the city and hates it. Weirdo.

The awesome thing about living in NYC for 5 years is that, in moving to Chicago, I think I’m getting a major bargain!

Since moving away from Chicago, I’m so out of the Loop (terrible pun). But really? Oak Street Beach, the beach of my youth - the sand is gone?

O’Hare is the only experience of Chicago I’ve ever had. I guess I’m too poor. But SOMEDAY when I’m all rich, I’ll go. Really. I promise.

But no sand on Oak Street Beach? That’s like fraud. Or misrepresentation. I’d ask for my money back.

Only have experienced both airports in Chicago….maybe Oprah will call me soon??

    :)

Sounds like my fling with San Francisco…only there IS a beautiful beach…with sand. Every time I go, I wish real hard that someone will walk up to me, hand me a key, and say:”Today is YOUR lucky day! You look so blissful here, YOU should have my house.”

Hmmm…I am not totally sure that I would *want* to go to the beach in Chicago. LOL I agree with the Chicago LOVE though, it is wonderful there (for the most part ~ we got lost one time ~ and I LOATHE toll roads LOL)
I’m also not sure I would want to be married to The Donald (or that thing on his head either. LOL) Maybe I could just be *his* long lost daughter instead.

I agree that Chicago is a great city and that it requires vasts amount of money. Magnificent Mile put a dent in our savings and checking account when we were there. :-)

Oh, and yes, the weather can suck. And it’s too windy. But other than that….great food and great shopping.

Yes, Chicago IS expensive - - but it IS a bargain compared to NYC! I have a whole big family who lives out there in NYC, and the cost of living is unbelievable!

Glad to hear you are enjoying yourself - - even if you can’t wiggle your toes in the sand . . .

No sand and a gaggle of douchebags. Oh wait, I’m thinking of North Ave. Beach.

We used to go to Oak Street when I was a kid. I live near Montrose Beach and don’t go because I HATE sand.
