Random and That Whole Bullet Thing

Published by Ree at 11:46 pm under random thoughts

AKA: The Lamest Post ever.

  • Mr. Hot shaved my head today. Well, it wasn’t a shave so much as a clipping with the #2 guard on. I was so tired of the little wispy shit that passes for hair these days, that I finally called him on it. “C’mon, just cut it off, ‘cuz it’s just matting up - there’s not enough of it to comb.” So, yay. I have to say, I actually like it, but…damn. Y’know how they say you lose most of your heat through your head? True. Especially when you’re sitting in the living room and your preferred spot on the couch is in front of the air conditioning vent. I’m sitting here in a sweatshirt. I do, however, look better bald than Britney.
  • It’s been misting all day. But not actually raining, y’know. More like it’s 100% humidity and every once in a while it tries to rain. So the sky spits for a while and then there’s just more humidity. It’s like swimming through air. But, hey, my hair is NOT frizzing. Snort.
  • The store finally had the Minute Maid Light Limeade that is the perfect mixer for my citrus vodka. They’ve had it on sale for the past two weeks - and apparently everyone has figured out that it’s MY favorite. People. Step away from the Limeade. You do not want to face a limeade-less Hotfessional.
  • I want to buy a camera. A big, honkin’, expensive, DSLR. I don’t know which one, and I can’t justify it, but I do. I want to be able to take close-ups of the birds that visit the bird bath. I want to be able to spy on the neighbors and record their comings and goings photograph the bunnies that play in the front yard.
  • I’m kind of upset that I’m not at BlogHer. I’m reading all of these great posts about meeting other bloggers and drinking and eating and trading business cards and “break out sessions” where you go learn about good stuff. I want SWAG. I want to hug Mr. Lady. I want to share hotel rooms with my internet peeps.
  • Mr. Hot is reading political posts to me. I’m trying not to crawl over to the other side of the couch and scratch his eyes out.
  • The dog is laying spread-eagle next to me. His feet keep twitching. The girl-cat is on the top of the couch cushion. I bet if I tip the cushion a bit, she’d fall right onto Poopy the Puppy’s belly. Snort. Sometimes I’m just a sick person. But how funny would that be?
  • Chris Cooper is an awesome actor. And it seems like he’s in every movie we see lately. Right now, Mr. Hot has “The Kingdom” on.
  • The cats love the dog’s new food. They never touched his old stuff (plain old Kibbles ‘n Bits), but they love the new stuff. I can hear the boy cat in the kitchen crunching his way through another bowl.
  • I have nothing for you all today.

I’m trying to imagine how much extra blogging time I would have if I had no hair to take care of.

Next year, if BlogHer is over on this side of the country, you and I are so there!!! By then, you’ll have hair and will be bitching about the gray that has to be covered.

I hope you get that camera so you can document the craziness across the street. Maybe you should learn some spy skills and bug the place so that you can really know what’s going down (or who).

Cameras, huh? Well, I lean towards the Nikon D300 (about $1800 for the body alone), or less expensive, perhaps the Nikon D70. I would suggest you “hot-foot” it into a bonafied camera shop, and talk models over with someone there knowledgeable about them, rather than just pick one up at Walmart or Sam’s or one of the box stores. Even if you don’t buy at the camera store, you can get some descent information, handle the camera models, and tell the salesperson what you are looking for and what price range, and he/she can show you various models in your price range. Canon has some nice digital SLR’s now, too.

I have been using a Nikon D100 for five years and love it. Before that, I used 2 Nikon N90S’s. If you get a Digital SLR, you’ll need to get a lens or two. Suggest a medium zoom, and not a brand name lens, as you can get optics nearly as good from Sigma or Tamron or a maker like that, for 1/2 to 1/3 of the cost of a Nikon or Canon lens.

Depending upon what you want to use the camera for, such as night sports, like football or basketball or other fast-action stuff that you may need an auxilliary flash for, be sure to check the camera body you are buying for its “Flash synchronization number,” which is very important in telling you if your camera and flash combination will be fast enough (at least 250 lens speed) to freeze your frame and target so there is no blur to it.

If I were to buy another, more current digital SLR, I would get a D300; it’s worth it! When you shop lenses, try to find one with a “macro” setting, so you can do extreme closeups, like flowers, etc. You’ll be glad you spent the extra money for that setting.

Also, when you are in the camera shop, check out their adjustable “monopods” and maybe consider getting a medium-priced, somewhat study one which you can use actually anywhere, when you want the absolute minimum “camera shake” on your images. You can also get a “quick-release” fitting that screws into the bottom of your SLR body that will allow you to attach and detach from the monopod very quickly.

Here endth the lesson for today. Have fun!

I just got my hair cut Tuesday evening after work, after getting it cut sometime last fall, and I was contemplating just cutting it all off. But, I didn’t. It’s about an inch long now, and much cooler.

I’m actually GLAD to not be at BlogHer … I think I would feel like I was in high school, and in awe of the “big bloggers” … instead, I get to sit here and live it vicariously. No seminars. No getting up early, putting on make-up, and worrying about what I’m wearing and how I look in it.

(I’m glad you finally went ahead and shaved your head. Now you can wear all kinds of cute hats!)

I think it’s awesome that you took the leap and shaved your hair! A friend of mine did that for medical reasons a couple of years ago but made the mistake of completely shaving it. By sticking with a #2 you should avoid the annoying itching she dealt with. :)

I have a Kodak EasyShare P850. It has an internal stabilizer and only set me back $350 (about 2 years ago). It has a wonderful zoom and I’ve been very happy with the shots I’ve taken.

I would love to be at blogher, but honestly I am so shy I would end up a mess of paranoia. Honest.

And of course you look better than Britany! Last time I checked you didn’t look anything like a cheap-ass hooker.

I shall crochet you a beanie for winter.

Drives me nuts when Brad does that. He’ll go, “hey Shoog! Listen to this!” And start reading something about Ron Paul. I’ll say, “Shoog, I’m reading my own book right now, and I’m at this really exciting part and I’d really like to finish it.” And he’ll say, “Just listen! It’s good!” And an hour later he’s still reading it, something I couldn’t care less about, and I’m asleep.

Dear Hubby has a Pentax ISTD camera, with different lenses to go with it, and absolutely loves it. He takes it with him to the races, and gets some fantastic shots! If you want to know more about it, let me know, and he can tell you ALL about it.

And I also think you SHOULD tip the cat, having a camera ready, and submit it to LOLCats . . . but then, I’m a sick, sick person . . . :-)

I keep reading posts about blogher and thinking never in a MILLION GAZILLION years would I have the guts to to hang with 900 famous bloggers. Well, unless I mainlined tequila first. THEN I’d be all over it.

Did you take pics of your new ‘do’? Remember Demi Moore in GI Jane? HOT!

I be your hair looks FABULOUS.

Whatever you do, make sure your camera has a minimum of 8 megapixels. Canons and Nikons should do you right.

    Hang in there, sister.

And did I miss who first recognized that Mr. Hot shaved off his facial hair??

  17. jeanieon 20 Jul 2008 at 11:08 pm

Well, I think its great that you have “a lame post” (which is crap) because I have 2 weeks of reading to catch up on, and a catchall post is okay to put the catchall comments in, isn’t it?

Firstly - I worked with a Suzie that had Alopecia - you could actually see the cause because the woman was a stress merchant, but she also had the most marvellous scarf collection - there are some amazing ways to wear your scarves, also!

I did the shave thing for no particular reason about 12 years ago (okay, it was bloddy hot and I was sick of hair) and I think it is a wonderful thing to see the shape of your head and go hairless for Summer!

Loved your Chicago sand post. I am not at Blogher either - but then, until I get some very serious sponsorship money I think I will have to do that one vicariously.

  18. Krissaon 20 Jul 2008 at 11:08 pm

Well, I think that was pretty fun and interesting and I always like reading things that don’t get bogged down in one area. So there!
My doges love cat food and if we ever run out of cat food the cat just looks at us like we’re crazy for trying to feed her dog food.
I too have been toying with the idea of getting a new camera for a good long time. I want the really expensive, phallic looking ones that two hands, (and upper body strength), to use. I want to zoom in on a freckle on my kids nose from across the football field.
I know how you feel about your mixers. I REQUIRE a certain carbonated water to go with my bourbon and the local grocery is ALWAYS out of it.
I bet your new do, is not only cute on you , but cooler outside.

    No response necessary…
    Have a great day!

I am glad you are enjoying your new ‘do. There are times when I want to pull a Britney, but I’m not entirely certain what my head would look like bald (I have a sneaking suspicion that it would be very similar to a basketball though ~ I have a round ass head. LOL)
I, too, am a fan of Minute Maid Limeade, not that light shit though. Just give it to me straight. LOL
I have been drooling over cameras for 3 yrs now, I just can’t decide which one to get. And everytime I do, I talk myself out of that one and into a different ~extremely similar~ one.
Tell Mr Hot that political articles are not for reading on Saturdays. Plain and simple.

I saw a chick today rocking in a scarf. I thought ‘While that chick is looking hot in that scarf, I bet Ree would look hotter!’

And you should totally get a Canon DSLR. I don’t have digital, but all my film cameras are Canon and I love them! I’ve had Canons for about 15 years and they get awesome pictures.
