Purposeless is Another Word for Random…

Published by Ree at 7:49 pm under random thoughts

… As are accidental, adventitious, aimless, aleatory, arbitrary, capricious, chance, desultory, discretionary, fickle, fortuitious, gratuitous, haphazard, hit-or-miss, impulsive, indiscriminate, intermittent, occasional, sporadic, stochastic, stry, unplanned, wanton.

Just in case you are also suffering from some sort of writer’s block and need to resort to “indiscriminate” mumblings.

My two boy-pets love to hang around in the office with me. For anyone who may have ever wondered what, exactly, a daschund/chocolate lab mix looks like:

and he who will lay anywhere as long as there’s a towel to lay on:

How many of you are using your Labor Day weekend to travel to Michigan to spread your tourism dollars around?  Because, y’know, that’s why our kids aren’t back in school yet.  Public schools can’t start school until after Labor Day because of this.  Now, y’all, think about it.  According to Michigan Tourism site,

Tourism officials and business leaders from the northern and western parts of the state had urged the governor to sign the bill. They said it will encourage families to take vacations in Michigan later in the summer.

What families?  Families from Michigan, only, obviously, since everyone else’s kids are already back.in.school.   Of course, those Michigan families who will be touring the state up until Labor Day have the money to spend on gas and hotels while our economy is tanking.

Okay - so yes, the law was passed in 2005 and went into effect with the 2006-2007 school year, but I didn’t have a blog then, and I forgot to write about it last year (plus, I didn’t work from home last year).  Michigan parents - here’s an informal poll - how do you feel about this?  Am I the only one that thinks it’s flippin’ stupid?

***** lalalalalalala *****

Mr. Hot and I went shopping so I could buy these last night.

Aren’t they pretty? And pink!

When we got home, I took them out of the box to show Shortman.  “See”, I said.  “They’re pink!”  To which he replied, “Um, I just don’t think you’re a pink kind of person.”

I looked down.  I was wearing a pink sweater.  (Yes, sweater.  It was chilly yesterday.)

***** lalalalalalala *****

Speaking of sweaters, I was going to start a new project last weekend.  I went out Thursday night and bought the yarn.  I was standing right in front of the crochet hooks.  Mr. Hot was browsing  around in the seasonal Clearance aisles (is there any better word when you’re shopping? “clearance”.  ahhhhhhh).  So, I rushed back as to not keep him waiting.  Without picking up the stupid-ass “I” sized crochet hook I needed.

***** lalalalalalala *****

Shortman is downstairs watching the “World’s Funniest Commercials” show he DVR’d last night. This one isn’t from last night, but I thought it was good:

I don’t think I ever told you about my friend “G” who was going on business trips long before I was. G couldn’t live without her “person@l m@ssager”, so of course, she packed it. Since these were the days before $50 charges for each checked bag and 9/11 security searches, she thought nothing of it.

In fact, she really didn’t think much about it - she was exhausted from the trip by the time she got to her destination, but she had to wait for her boss (who was coming in from a different city) to meet her so they could travel to the plant together. (G is an engineer - she doesn’t go to the “office”, she goes to the “plant”.)

Her boss kindly offered to carry her duffle bag and slung it up over his shoulder. “Do you hear a buzzing?”, he asked. G couldn’t hear anything.

Of course, she found out what that buzzing had been when she unpacked that evening and found that her batteries, which had been new the week before, were now completely and utterly dead.

—- And now, I won’t subject you to more ramblings. I’m behind in reading. I’m behind in email. I have one more article to submit for Blissfully Domestic before tonight. Oh, yea, and there’s that whole “real, paying job” thing that I have for the next two and a half months. I’d like to take a nap now, kthxbai. —-

When I was a kid school never started before Labor Day. It seems very strange to me for school to start in August as it does here.

That is the one thing I miss most about those kittens I had for a few days … they both LOVED their bellies scratched … my girly kitty tries to BITE me but I love the belly and rub my hand in their anyway … I think I do it just to see her MOVE … cats can be so very lazy!

That buzzing sound? Is the reason I no longer travel with my battery powered toothbrush.

LOVE the shoes! My daughter, Kessa, has some similar pink sneakers that she cherishes and checks the weather forecast before putting on to wear out of the house.

Sure it was the personal organiser!!! Personal something that uses batteries, anyway.

We have a ginger belly to scratch like that - only with a fluffier tail.

I want to snuggle your pup. What a cutie he is. Does he wag his tail so hard he practically bends in half? I bet he does. I’ve got two lab-mix pooches myself and, aside from the shedding! OMG, the HAIR!, I love them to bits and bits.

And those shoes, while very fetching, make my feet hurt just looking at them. I have yet to find a comfy pair of sneaks. Let me know how those work out?

Also, I am going to be spending my Labor Day weekend traveling to places in the Glove! Yea, Michigan!

That dog, from that angle, looks like a potbellied pig. Now, you’ve seen pictures of my hideous creatures that masquerade as canines, so you know I’m not being mean. But a Daschund and a LAB??? I’m assuming the lab was the mother but that’s just bringing to mind the mechanics of the process that I just don’t want to think about! (but he is TOTALLY adorable when you turn the computer around and look at him right side up).

To answer the ‘School After Labor Day’ poll… I think it’s stoopid. (yes, “stoopid”) I get sooo jealous reading blog posts written by people whose children start school like the 2nd week of August. STFU, Braggers! It’s not fair!

Love the babies! Do they like it when you kiss their bellies? Don’t you like the warmth and the puppy smell (okay, Dingo Girl is not a puppy anymore, but still)? Is that just me? Am I weird? Go ahead, you can say it. But I will make fun of your pink shoes. Just kidding. I like them. Did you find a place that evaluated your gait?

Bwahahahahahaha…that video is FUNNY. Mr Hyphen has funny stories of airport baggage searches that turn up person@l m@ss@gers that are buzzing, so I learned a LOOONG time ago to take batteries out and store them in a different location. Um, IF I were to travel with such an object.

CUTE shoes. I’m sure they’ll make all the difference!

Poopy’s a cute puppy. And YES I wondered what a chocolate lab/weiner combo would look like. A chocolate weiner… what’s not to love?

Who knew there were so many synomyms for random?

I had many things to say about this post. But just as a thought was formulating, your capricious writing jolted me off track and by the end I couldn’t come up with a single comment.

I can only focus on one thing at a time, I guess. :)

  18. Jennifer Hon 28 Aug 2008 at 5:56 am

Someone I know told me she learned the embarrassing way that it’s best to remove all batteries before packing that sort of thing. :-)

You have no idea how much I wish we didn’t start school until after Labor Day. It’s been so hot here, and I’m looking forward to when our lame version of fall finally arrives.

    Cute boy-pets!

Love the new shoes - I know they aren’t HAWT Stilettos, but still. Loved the commercial too! Thanks for the ramblings - I couldn’t concentrate too much so little pieces of info here and there are great. Oh, and daschund/lab mix - that is a visual I really didn’t need!!! lol

    Your shoes are awesome!
Wisconsin families can come to MI because we have the exact same stupid law. Ironically, most of the employees in Tourism World are college kids who have to leave before Labor Day…so who’s working that last week anyway?
Your black dog? Looks like a pet pig in that shot. Funny!

Ramblings are good sometimes you know. I know they aren’t profound literary works but they are therapeutic for both the writer and the reader.

You see it is 5am and I was very unable to sleep so I woke up packed some boxes and am now reading your blog while eating lucky charms. I feel better already, see very therapeutic!

The shoes are very cute! As for scratchin’ bellies - count your blessings that the cats are cool with that. Mine - let’s just say the minute you touch Shadow’s belly or back paw, you take your life in your hands as the Exorcist has nothing on this evil kitten. It’s so worth it.

School should NOT start before Labor Day - hell, Labor Day signifies the end of summer. Why start school in the summer. I know, I know - I’m so old school.
